Sound Baths

Sound Bath Meditation - Wellness on the

"There's no organ system in the body that's not affected by sound,  music, and vibration."

- Mitchell Gaynor

Curious about what a sound bath is? It’s not something brand new -  sound baths and sound healings have actually been around for an incredibly long time!

Sound healing has ancient roots in cultures all over the world. Aboriginal tribes and Tibetan Monks (just to name a few) have been using sound healing for thousands of years!

In the East, illness, disease, and mental health issues are thought to be caused by an imbalance in, or a blockage of, energy throughout the body. Sound healing is a powerful way of using specific frequencies to bring the mind, body, and spirit back to a state of harmony.

What exactly is a sound bath anyways?

Sound baths are a unique type of meditation that is able to guide you into a deep meditative state while you are enveloped in the powerful sounds of these incredible healing instruments.

In our sound baths we play a variety of healing instruments including traditional singing bowls, crystal singing bowls, healing chimes, a tongue drum, and a gong. We begin each of our sound baths with a short guided meditation to help you release any stress or tension, and find your meditation groove. Once everyone is relaxed, we begin to play.

“If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies.”

-  Dr. Mitchell L. Gaynor, M.D.

  Why are these "healing" instruments?

Each of our instruments creates a different frequency of sound that you not only hear, but that vibrates throughout your body. The sound waves from these instruments are able to deeply penetrate our bodies, shaking up blockages, and encouraging energy to flow freely.

The vibrations of these instruments are able to move through our muscles and organs, truly reaching every cell of our bodies. These frequencies are also able to entrain our brain waves, shifting them away from a beta state (alert and concentrating), to theta (meditative state) and even delta brain ways (deep sleep, where healing is able to happen).

If you think back to high school science, and how energy spreads through different types of matter, you’ll remember that it spreads quite easily from molecule to molecule - especially if we’re talking about solids and liquids (thanks to how tightly the molecules are packed in there). Considering we’re all about 60% water, then add in some solid matter for bones and cartilage, and you can begin to understand why the vibrations from these instruments can be felt throughout the body.

Together, but apart.    Healing vibes from around the world.

A few weeks into the pandemic, we had an idea. We wanted to send some healing out into the world in the way we knew how. But we knew we couldn't do it alone. So we reached out to old friends and new friends, and asked them to join us.

This video is filled with the hearts, voices, and healing energies of people from all around the world. Take a few minutes for yourself now, and allow the sounds of these healing instruments to wash over you. May it bring you comfort, peace, and healing.

What can  I expect to feel during a sound bath meditation?

How you experience a sound bath is completely individual. Something we find incredibly interesting is that you often won’t experience them exactly the same each time you go to one! There is no right or wrong way to experience a sound bath - so you can get rid of any pressure or expectation that comes along with trying out a sound bath for the first time!

Many people feel incredibly relaxed and refreshed during and after a sound bath. Some people feel specific instruments really resonate within their bodies. Other people enter a unique state of deep relaxation, the phase where you’re almost asleep, but still conscious of your thoughts. Some people are more visual, and will begin to see themselves somewhere else.

Whatever you experience during a sound bath is absolutely okay! Don’t be afraid to lean into any sensations you notice during a sound healing - the instruments are simply releasing what you no longer need, sending healing where it is required, and allowing your body to come into better alignment.
